SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Thursday night was supposed to be an early test between two unbeaten teams.
Johnson made sure it never felt that way.
The Jaguars opened District 28-6A play with a dominant 66-6 victory over LEE at Comalander Stadium, improving to 3-0 and handing the Volunteers their first loss of the season.
LEE entered the match-up 3-0 and off to its best start since 2015 under first-year head coach Eddie Veyran. Johnson came in as the No. 1 team in the San Antonio Express-News area power rankings, setting up one of the more intriguing matchups of the opening week of district play.
It did not stay close for long.
Johnson built a 42-0 advantage by halftime and continued to control the game behind a rushing attack that LEE could not slow down. The Jaguars finished with 362 rushing yards on just 23 carries while scoring six touchdowns on the ground.
Junior running back Jeremiah Johnson led the way.
Johnson needed only five carries to rush for 148 yards and two touchdowns, averaging nearly 30 yards per attempt. His night included a 66-yard run as the Jaguars repeatedly created explosive plays on the ground.
Noah Cartwright was just as efficient, rushing three times for 75 yards and two touchdowns, while Jayden Lacy added 70 yards and another score on eight carries. Quarterback C. Abraham also found the end zone on the ground.
Senior quarterback Elvis Estrada did not need to throw often. He completed six of seven passes for 53 yards and a touchdown as Johnson relied heavily on its rushing attack after taking control early.
The result continued a strong opening stretch for the Jaguars.
Johnson began the season with a 38-7 win over Vandegrift before shutting out Odessa 37-0. Its scheduled opener against Judson was canceled because of weather. Through three completed games, the Jaguars have outscored their opponents 141-13.
For LEE, the loss ends what had been one of the program’s most encouraging starts in years.
The Volunteers opened the season with wins over Edison, Lehman and MacArthur, already surpassing their win total from each of the previous four seasons. LEE finished 2-8 in 2025 and had not entered district play undefeated since 2015.
Thursday showed the gap Johnson was able to create quickly.
What began as a match-up between undefeated teams became another convincing performance for a Jaguars team that entered the week ranked No. 5 in Class 6A by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
Johnson now turns its attention to Brandeis on Oct. 2, while LEE will look to respond against Roosevelt on Oct. 1.
For Johnson, the message from its district opener was simple.
Three games. Three wins.
And its most dominant performance yet.
