The Cornerstone Christian Warriors opened their season in impressive fashion Friday night, cruising past visiting UANL of Monterrey, Nuevo León, 62-28 in a non-league matchup. From the opening whistle, the Warriors established control on both sides of the football, putting together a balanced offensive attack that allowed them to pull away from the visiting squad.

Cornerstone’s passing game was led by senior quarterback S. Shuler, who completed 15 of 17 attempts for 305 yards and six touchdowns. Shuler was highly efficient throughout the night, completing nearly 88% of his passes while averaging more than 20 yards per completion. His longest completion went for 67 yards, highlighting the big-play ability that helped fuel the Warriors’ offensive explosion.

Senior R. Parson also contributed through the air, completing 7 of 10 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. Combined, the two quarterbacks accounted for 406 passing yards and seven touchdowns, giving Cornerstone multiple ways to attack the UANL defense.

The Warriors were equally effective on the ground, led by junior J. McKane, who carried the ball 14 times for 177 yards and a touchdown. McKane averaged an impressive 12.6 yards per carry and broke off a 58-yard run, providing another explosive element to Cornerstone’s offense. Parson added 30 rushing yards and a touchdown on five carries, while A. Villarreal, R. Harris and C. Norman also contributed carries.

Cornerstone’s receiving corps consistently created opportunities downfield. Senior J. Johnson led the team with five receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 31.4 yards per catch and recording a 67-yard reception. Senior C. Moon added six catches for 84 yards and three touchdowns, while junior I. Regge finished with three receptions for 49 yards and a touchdown.

The Warriors also received contributions from several other players, including C. Cleggett, who recorded two receptions for 51 yards, and J. Ritz, who added a 24-yard reception. J. McKane finished with two catches for 22 yards, while J. Daniels contributed two receptions for 15 yards and a touchdown.

With the 62-28 victory, Cornerstone Christian moves to 1-0 on the season and will now turn its attention toward another major non-league test against IMG Academy of Bradenton, Florida. The Ascenders also enter the matchup at 1-0 after opening their season with a dominant 59-3 victory over Lone Peak of Highland, Utah.

For Cornerstone, Friday night’s performance provided an early statement. The Warriors demonstrated explosive playmaking through the air, a productive rushing attack and the ability to finish drives in the end zone. Now, they’ll look to carry that momentum into their matchup with one of the nation’s most recognized high school football programs.
